For consultants, practitioners, and specialists
People understand your work when you explain it
Your online presence should do the same
If your content is not generating qualified leads and you have to talk to people before they understand your value, your online presence is leaving too much unexplained.
The frustrating part is that you already know how to explain your work.
You do it in person all the time.
But online, people are often left with pieces of that explanation instead.
Your content should help the right people understand how you can help them and why they should take the next step, without requiring you to be in the room.
Your expertise can still be difficult to recognize from the outside
My name is Edgar A. Morales, a former journalist, now ghostwriter and content strategist, and I’ve been to scores of networking events.
One of the things I’ve found to be fascinating is how well many professionals can explain their work… in person.
Someone asks the right question, and they can easily explain what their clients are dealing with, share stories from their work, and give examples of how their approach could help.
But once the conversation ends, a potential client may look them up online and find:
A website that describes their services.
A LinkedIn profile with their title and a few general claims.
Posts that share genuinely useful ideas.
And still be left wondering:
Does this person really understand what I’m dealing with?
How can they help me?
Why should I talk to them instead of someone else?
An ideal client can see plenty of evidence that you know your stuff and still leave without understanding why they should talk to you.
You shouldn’t have to be in the room every time someone needs to understand your value
Different Businesses Same Problem
So, for the last few years, I’ve been helping consultants, financial professionals, wellness practitioners, and other specialists turn their expertise into clear content.
As I’ve worked with more clients, one thing has genuinely surprised me: it doesn’t matter how long someone has been in business or how straightforward their title is. People can still have a very incomplete picture of what they actually do.
I call it the Positioning Gap
The distance between the depth of someone’s work and the incomplete way people understand it.
A Positioning Gap can show up in several practical ways:
Your website lists your services, but it does not explain what makes your approach unique.
Your content can be useful or insightful and still leave people wondering what they should actually hire you for.
Referral partners know you are good at what you do, but not how to explain it or when to recommend you.
Prospective clients reach out, but they still need a long conversation to understand how you can help and what sets you apart.
People can see evidence of your expertise without getting a clear picture of how all the pieces connect.
More content can give them more pieces of the puzzle, but it does not automatically give them the full picture.
That’s why the answer
is not simply more content
What’s usually missing is one clear place where the full value of your work is explained in a way prospective clients and referral partners can understand and use
The Color Paper Set
Make your expertise easier to understand, recommend, and choose
Build an online presence that attracts the right clients
Make it easier for referral partners to recommend you
Become known for the ideas that set you apart
What is a Color Paper?
A Color Paper is a comprehensive, story-based narrative that gives prospective clients and referral partners a clear explanation of your work in one place.
Instead of asking people to piece together what you do from your website, profile, content, referrals, and conversations, your Color Paper brings the strongest parts of your experience, stories, perspective, and approach into one coherent narrative.
Each Color Paper is built around the questions people need answered when deciding to choose you
Is this relevant to what I’m dealing with?
Does this person understand the problem I’m trying to solve?
Are there things I may be overlooking?
What does working with them actually look like?
What kind of results can I realistically expect?
Why would I choose this person instead of someone else?
What should I do next?
But a finished Color Paper does not read like a questionnaire or a collection of answers.
A Color Paper reads like a clear, story-led explanation of your work that helps people understand how you can help and why they should consider working with you
Stories are evidence
One reason experienced professionals can be so compelling in conversation is that they don’t explain everything through claims and credentials.
They tell stories.
They talk about the client who came in thinking one thing and discovered something else.
They explain the project that changed the way they work.
They describe the question they have learned to ask before recommending a solution.
A compelling story can show what someone was trying to solve, why the obvious answer wasn’t enough, and what became clearer once they looked more closely.
Stories help people understand how you work.
Within a Color Paper, stories do more than make the writing interesting.
They help prospective clients see how you approach real situations, what your work can help clarify, and why your approach may be relevant to them.
One narrative
Give your best explanation somewhere to live
Your Color Paper is a finished asset in its own right.
Once completed, you can:
Share it with prospective clients before an initial conversation
Send it to people who are interested in your work but still need more context
Or give it to referral partners and professional connections so they have a fuller explanation of what you do, how you help, and why someone may want to talk to you.
Instead of asking people to piece together your value from different parts of your professional presence, you have one clear narrative they can read, share, and use to understand your work.
It gives prospective clients more context before they reach out and gives referral partners better language when they bring up your name.
Which Color Paper fits your work?
The Color Paper Set consists of three colors: Black, Purple, and Blue, because people make different decisions when they hire different types of professionals.
Someone considering a strategic advisor is asking different questions from someone choosing a therapist, wellness practitioner, or specialized service provider.
But your job title alone does not determine which Paper fits you. The better question is:
“What does someone need to understand
before they feel confident choosing your work?”
The Purple Paper
For professionals whose approach to wellbeing, care, or personal growth is part of the decision.
Therapists and psychologists
Health and wellness practitioners
And other practitioner-led professionals
The question your reader is asking:
Could this kind of support be right for my situation?
The Black Paper
For professionals hired for judgment, strategy, business acumen, and direction.
Business Consultants
Executive and leadership Coaches
And other judgment-led experts
The question your reader is asking:
Can this person help me understand where I should focus my attention and what my next move should be?
The Blue Paper
For specialists hired for expertise, process, craft, and execution.
Website and brand designers
Tax and financial specialists
And other technical, creative, or professional-service specialists
The question your reader is asking:
Will I get a better result by hiring this specialist instead of choosing based on price, speed, or the deliverable alone?
The Black Paper
For professionals hired for judgment, strategy, business acumen, and direction.
The Black Paper is designed for consultants, advisors, coaches, fractional leaders, strategists, and other professionals whose clients rely on them to understand a situation, identify what matters, and decide what to do next.
This may include:
Business consultants
Strategic advisors
Business coaches
Executive and leadership coaches
Fractional CMOs, CFOs, and operations leaders
Innovation and AI advisors
Strategic sales advisors
Partnership professionals
And other judgment-led experts
A Black Paper helps prospective clients understand how you make sense of difficult situations, what you notice beneath the visible problems, and how your judgment helps them create a more effective path forward.
A Black Paper shows how your guidance can lead to clearer priorities, better decisions, and a more confident next step.
The question your reader is asking:
Can this person help me understand where I should focus my attention and what my next move should be?
The Purple Paper
For professionals whose approach to wellbeing, care, or personal growth is part of the decision.
The Purple Paper is designed for health, wellness, therapeutic, and personal-growth practitioners whose clients need to understand more than a service description before deciding to work with them.
This may include:
Therapists and psychologists
Counselors
Health and wellness practitioners
Health coaches
Mindfulness and meditation teachers
Somatic practitioners
Nutrition and lifestyle professionals
Personal-growth coaches
Life-transition coaches
And other practitioner-led professionals
A Purple Paper helps people understand the concerns you work with, the lens you bring to those concerns, what your approach may involve, what realistic progress can look like, and where the boundaries of your work begin and end.
The Purple Paper gives your prospective clients enough context to make a thoughtful decision without diagnosing them, pressuring them, or promising an outcome.
The question your reader is asking:
Could this kind of support be right for my situation?
The Blue Paper
For specialists hired for expertise, process, craft, and execution.
The Blue Paper is for professional-service providers whose work may look simple from the outside but depends on specialized knowledge, professional standards, practical experience, and a thoughtful process.
This may include:
Website and brand designers
Copywriters and content specialists
Sales specialists and trainers
Corporate trainers
Tax professionals
Lending and credit specialists
Business-development professionals
Operational specialists
Recruiters and HR professionals
And other technical, financial, creative, or professional-service specialists
A Blue Paper helps clients understand what goes into the work before the finished deliverable appears.
The Blue Paper shows your clients what makes your approach unique, the decisions that affect the results you deliver, and what separates your specialized professional work from simply completing a task.
The question your reader is asking:
Will I get a better result by hiring this specialist instead of choosing based on price, speed, or the deliverable alone?
Still not sure which Paper fits you?
Some professionals can reasonably fit more than one category.
You do not need to figure that out before joining the cohort.
We’ll determine which Paper best fits your work so the finished narrative answers the questions your prospective clients actually need answered before they feel confident choosing you.
We choose your Color Paper based on the central reason your clients hire you
Why I created The Color Paper Set
I started this chapter of my career a few years ago with a pretty straightforward goal: help professionals make the depth of their expertise more visible through their content.
For a long time, I thought the natural progression of that work would be helping people publish better content more consistently. Newsletters, articles, social posts, and other forms of thought leadership all seemed like the obvious vehicles for making expertise more visible.
The more client work I did, the more I saw the gap between what experienced professionals knew and what their public communication actually showed.
People who could hire, refer, recommend, or collaborate with them often had only an incomplete understanding of their work.
Someone can be highly capable and have substantial experience. Their judgment, care, process, or specialized skill may be exactly what someone needs.
But if the explanation is incomplete or scattered, other people are left to figure out the value for themselves.
That made me increasingly interested in what had to exist before the content.
During discovery calls, I would often hear professionals explain their work with far more depth than anything I could find on their website or in their public content.
In reviewing those conversations, I paid special attention to what surfaced when someone had enough room to talk through the problems they helped solve, how they approached them, the stories behind their perspective, and the outcomes their work was designed to support.
The more I listened back to those conversations, the more a few things became difficult to ignore.
People do not hire, refer, or recommend a professional they cannot clearly explain
People cannot value work they do not understand
And more content does not solve an unclear message
How that became The Color Paper Set
Around the same time, I created a Free Consulting Report. It began as a way to summarize a prospect’s situation after a call, but I kept developing it until it was doing something much more substantial: capturing the strongest parts of our conversations, clarifying the problems they were trying to solve, organizing my analysis, and giving the reader a useful direction.
Eventually, I realized I was no longer creating a sales follow-up document.
I was creating a product.
What if, instead of starting with another post, newsletter, or website rewrite, we first created one comprehensive piece that gave the strongest explanation of a professional’s work somewhere to live?
A place where their experience, stories, approach, and expertise could be fully developed, and where the rest of their professional communication could begin.
Their website. Social posts. Newsletters. Presentations. Referral conversations. Future thought leadership.
All of it could build from a clearer foundation.
That is what eventually became The Color Paper Set.
Build your Color Paper in the first cohort
The Color Paper cohort is a focused, six-week done-with-you program for professionals who want to develop and write their own Paper with structure, strategic guidance, editorial feedback, and a clear finish line.
You bring the expertise and remain the primary writer.
I help you determine what belongs in the Paper, draw out the stories and ideas that make your work easier to understand, organize them into a coherent narrative, and strengthen the Paper as it develops.
You will not spend six weeks writing on your own and hoping the finished Paper works.
We will review it at key stages while there is still time to clarify the thinking, strengthen the stories, and make sure the narrative gives your prospective clients and referral partners the context they need.
By the end of the cohort, the goal is for you to have a completed or publication-ready Black, Purple, or Blue Paper that you can begin using across your professional presence.
What We Will Work Through
We will begin by clarifying the audience and the part of your work this Paper needs to explain. From there, we will develop the narrative around the questions your prospective clients need answered before they feel confident choosing you.
Depending on the Paper, that means working through areas such as:
The situations your clients are already dealing with when they begin looking for help
How they are likely responding to these situations before contacting you
What your experience has taught you that they may be missing from their understanding
The stories that shaped your perspective
The lens or specialized expertise behind your work
What working with you actually involves, including the decisions, process, or support behind the result
Fit, scope, boundaries, and best route to work with you.
The framework gives us structure
Your experience gives us the content
How the six-week build works
〰️
How the six-week build works 〰️
You will receive feedback at key points throughout the build: an early review once the foundation is taking shape, another when most of the narrative has been developed, and a final review of the completed first draft.
The goal is to keep improving your Color Paper as you write it, rather than discovering at the end that the narrative needs to be rebuilt.
We will develop your Color Paper in stages rather than trying to solve the entire narrative at once.
Week 1: Establish the foundation
Clarify who the Paper is for, what part of your work it needs to explain, which Color Paper best fits, and the central questions your reader needs answered.
Week 2: Develop the raw material
Begin identifying and developing the stories, observations, experiences, and ideas that give the Paper its substance and make your perspective easier to understand.
Week 3: Build the argument
Work through what your prospective clients are dealing with, how they currently understand the situation, what they may be missing, and what your experience has taught you about it.
Week 4: Make your expertise visible
Develop the parts of the Paper that explain your lens, judgment, approach, process, or specialized expertise and show how those affect the way you help.
Week 5: Shape the narrative
Look at how the pieces connect, where the reader still needs more context, what deserves greater emphasis, what feels repetitive, and what can be removed.
Week 6: Finish the Paper
Strengthen the complete narrative, resolve any remaining gaps, and prepare your first draft to be shared, published, and put to work across your professional presence.
What the Cohort Includes
Live Instruction And Strategy
We will work through the major parts of the Color Paper together so you understand what each section needs to accomplish, what belongs in it, and how the framework applies to your specific Paper.
Strategic and
Editorial Feedback
We will review your Color Paper as it develops and identify where the thinking needs more context, where a story could do more work, where the narrative repeats itself, and where the reader is still being asked to make too many connections on their own.
Repurposing
Direction
Once your Color Paper is developed, we will identify the strongest ideas, stories, explanations, and sections you can reuse across your website, content, presentations, referral conversations, and other parts of your professional communication.
Peer
Accountability
You will build alongside other professionals working toward the same finish line, creating momentum, accountability, and a shared sense of progress as you work toward a completed Paper.
What a Finished Color Paper Unlocks
Your Color Paper gives the rest of your professional presence a clear foundation to keep building from.
A finished Color Paper turns scattered ideas and explanations into one developed narrative about your work.
When you or a referral partner need to explain what you do, you are no longer starting from scratch every time.
You will have one clear source that makes it easier to explain your work, stay consistent across your professional presence, and give others the language they need to recommend you.
Some of the biggest value of a Color Paper comes from what happens while you create it.
The process will help you identify which ideas, stories, lessons, perspectives, and ways of working best represent your expertise, including the beliefs you are willing to stand behind and the observations you want people to associate with your name.
You will walk away with a clearer set of ideas, stories, examples, and points of view to keep building from.
You can draw from your Color Paper to:
Strengthen your LinkedIn About section
Improve your website and service pages
Create your Start Here page
Give referral partners clearer language
Prepare for podcast interviews and presentations
Develop stronger LinkedIn posts
Write newsletters and articles
Build workshops and keynotes
Improve initial and sales conversations
Shape future offers
Develop the foundation for a signature book
Instead of treating each part of your professional presence as a separate communication problem, the goal is to ensure all your content reinforces your distinctive approach, how you work, and what you want to be known for.
Classes, community, and support in one place
The cohort will run inside The Authority Storytelling Lab, my learning and implementation community for professionals who want to communicate their expertise more clearly through stronger positioning, stories, and content.
Inside the Lab, you’ll have access to the live cohort sessions, recordings, supporting resources, prompts, and a dedicated space to connect with other professionals.
During the six weeks, the Lab gives you a place to keep moving between sessions, ask questions, share progress, and use the resources that support the development of your Paper.
Once the cohort ends, you can keep using the Lab to turn the ideas, stories, and explanations developed through your Color Paper into stronger content and a more consistent professional presence.
Who the cohort is for
The cohort is best suited for experienced professionals who want to close the gap between how clearly they explain their work in person and how well their online presence communicates it, so the right people can understand what they do, see how it applies to their situation, and feel more confident taking the next step.
You may recognize yourself if:
You are tired of explaining your work from scratch
Your content is useful but rarely creates interest in your services
People know your title but do not fully understand what you help with
Referrals arrive without enough context or are sometimes a poor fit
You sound much clearer in conversations than you do online
Your best ideas are spread across old posts, presentations, notes, workshops, and client conversations
You have stories worth using but have never organized them into a cohesive narrative
Every new piece of content feels like another attempt to figure out your message
You want a stronger foundation before investing more time or money into content
You do not need to be a professional writer, but you should be willing to stay actively involved in shaping and writing your Color Paper.
If you would rather have personalized support with the writing and development of your Color Paper, private options are available.
Turn your expertise into a finished Color Paper in six weeks
The first Color Paper Cohort begins September 16, 2026 and runs for six weeks.
The first Color Paper Cohort is a small, guided program for experienced professionals who want to develop and write a completed or publication-ready Black, Purple, or Blue Paper.
You will remain the primary writer, but you will not be figuring it out alone. Over six weeks, you’ll work through the framework with live instruction, strategic guidance, editorial feedback, and three structured review checkpoints designed to help you strengthen the Paper as it develops.
By the end of the cohort, the goal is for you to have a substantial, story-led explanation of your work that you can use with prospective clients, referral partners, and across the rest of your professional presence.
6 Weekly Live Working Sessions
The sessions will combine instruction, examples, working time, discussion, and feedback as we develop your Paper.
Live session dates:
September 16
September 23
September 30
October 7
October 14
October 21
All sessions will be recorded and available inside The Authority Storytelling Lab, along with the supporting resources and cohort community.
Build One Complete Color Paper
You will choose and develop the Black, Purple, or Blue Paper that best fits the central reason clients hire you.
The cohort gives you the framework, guidance, deadlines, feedback, and support to move from scattered source material and ideas to one developed narrative about your work.
Three Structured Review Checkpoints
You will receive strategic and editorial feedback as the Paper develops rather than waiting until the entire draft is finished.
Early-development review
Once the foundation of the Paper is taking shape, I will review the early sections to make sure the narrative is headed in the right direction before you build further.
Development review
At roughly 75% completion, we will look at how the full narrative is coming together, including where the thinking needs more context, where stories could do more work, where ideas are repeating, and where the reader may still be making too many connections on their own.
Final first-draft review
Once the complete first draft is finished, I will review the Paper as a whole and give you direction for strengthening it into a publication-ready asset.
The feedback will focus on positioning, narrative structure, clarity, story use, reader understanding, and how effectively the Paper explains your work.
The cohort does not include full ghostwriting or line-by-line rewriting of your Paper
Access to The Authority Storytelling Lab
Small Cohort
12 spots available
The first cohort will be limited to 12 participants.
Keeping the group small gives everyone room to participate, receive meaningful feedback, ask questions, and build alongside other professionals working toward the same finish line.
Early-Adopter Investment
$780
The cohort will take place inside The Authority Storytelling Lab, where you will have access to:
Live cohort sessions
Session recordings
Color Paper resources and prompts
The cohort community
A place to ask questions and share work in progress
Additional Authority Storytelling Lab classes and resources that can help you continue developing the ideas and content that come out of your Paper
Future cohorts are expected to be offered at a higher price as the program, examples, and supporting resources continue to develop.
Your enrollment includes all six live sessions and recordings, three structured review checkpoints, cohort resources and community, and access through The Authority Storytelling Lab.
Time Commitment
Plan to spend approximately 3–4 hours per week outside the live sessions developing and revising your Paper.
The exact amount will depend on how much source material you already have, how quickly you draft, and how much development your ideas and stories require.
You do not need to be a professional writer, but you should be prepared to stay actively involved in the thinking, writing, and revision process throughout the six weeks.
Your Questions Answered
-
You do not need to figure that out before joining. We will determine which Paper best fits your work based on the central reason clients hire you and what prospective clients need to understand before choosing you.
Some professionals could reasonably fit more than one category. The goal is to choose the Paper that gives us the strongest structure for explaining the part of your work that matters most.
-
Neither.
A sales page is primarily designed to sell a specific offer. A traditional white paper usually explores a topic, problem, or body of research.
A Color Paper is designed to explain the experience, perspective, and approach behind your work.
It gives you room to develop the problem, your point of view, the experience behind that perspective, your approach, stories, evidence, fit, and what someone can expect from working with you.
A Color Paper can support the sales process, but it should still be useful to someone who reads it and decides not to hire you.
-
No.
Existing posts, articles, workshops, presentations, notes, podcasts, and website copy can all give us useful source material.
But some of the strongest material may not have been published anywhere.
It may live in the stories you tell clients, the questions you ask during consultations, the examples you use when explaining something, or lessons that have become so familiar to you that you no longer think of them as content.
Part of the work is finding that material.
-
That is what the Done-For-You option is for.
If you want to remain involved in the writing but prefer private support, the private Done-With-You option may be a better fit.
-
Every cohort session will be recorded and available inside The Authority Storytelling Lab.
You can catch up on the instruction if you miss a session, but the cohort works best when you continue developing your Paper from week to week so your draft is ready for the review checkpoints and feedback built into the process.
-
The feedback is designed to help the Paper work as a complete explanation of your expertise, not simply improve individual sentences.
We will look at whether the narrative gives readers enough context, whether your strongest ideas and stories are doing enough work, where something needs to be developed further, where the Paper is repeating itself, and where a prospective client may still be left trying to connect the dots.
You will receive that feedback at three stages of development so you can strengthen the Paper while you are building it.
-
You do not need to be a professional writer.
You should be comfortable putting your ideas into a draft and willing to revise them as the Paper develops. The framework, live instruction, and feedback are there to help you organize what you know and turn it into a clear narrative.
-
Plan for approximately 3–4 hours per week outside the live sessions for writing, reviewing source material, and revising your Paper.
The exact amount will depend on how quickly you draft, how much material you already have, and how much development your stories and ideas require.
-
No single document can guarantee leads.
A Color Paper helps potential clients and referral partners understand what you do, how you help, and why your work may be relevant to them.
You still need ways for people to find you. But once they do, the Color Paper gives them a clearer explanation of your work and it gives you something useful to share through your website, content, referrals, presentations, networking, and sales conversations.
-
You leave with a completed or publication-ready Color Paper that is yours to use across your professional presence.
You can share it directly with prospects and referral partners, use it to strengthen your website and profiles, and continue developing its ideas, stories, and explanations into content, presentations, conversations, and other parts of your communication.
You will also retain access to The Authority Storytelling Lab, where you can keep using the resources, classes, and community to develop the ideas that came out of your Paper and continue strengthening the way you communicate your work.
You don’t need to publish everything you know
You need the right people to understand enough of your work to know how it connects to what they need, when to bring up your name, and why they should choose you.
If your content, referrals, and conversations are each explaining only part of your value, you will keep repeating yourself, attracting poor-fit inquiries, and leaving good opportunities on the table.
A Color Paper brings your strongest ideas, stories, experience, perspective, and explanations into one cohesive narrative that can guide the rest of your professional presence.
It gives prospective clients more context before they reach out, gives referral partners better language to recommend you, and gives you a clearer foundation for explaining your work everywhere else.
